Here are some of the common health conditions we treat on a frequent basis.
Chiropractic Care for Children
Most people recognize the value of chiropractic care for adults. A more normally working musculoskeletal and nervous system can benefit not only adults but children as well. Before subjecting their children to risky drugs or hoping it’s “just a phase they’re going through”, wise parents can consult our office.
Chiropractic care for children is different from that for adults. Tailored to their age and weight, adjustments for children often require no more pressure than you’d use to test the ripeness of a tomato.
Children in our office enjoy their chiropractic care and look forward to their visits.
As children grow and explore their world, crawling leads to walking. Walking leads to running. Tricycles lead to bicycles. Before we know it, their mobility and curiosity produce a whirlwind of nonstop activity. Along the way they lose their balance. They fall. They slip. They trip. They stumble. They tumble. Even though your child’s young body has a tremendous capacity to adapt, uncorrected spinal misalignments can set the stage for problems often seen later in adults. Regular chiropractic visits during this time of rapid growth are essential.
Misalignments of the spine can also hamper your child’s ability to ward off infection. Weakened by a compromised nervous system, his or her stomach, lungs, nose, ears, and throat can become more susceptible to viruses and other microbes. Restoring the integrity of the nervous system and the function of the body’s cell and tissue is what chiropractic care is all about. Many parents who consult our office report that their children miss less school and seem healthier than other children.
Scoliosis, also know as an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, is a common condition that can occur during adolescence. Scoliosis is more prevalent in young females. Parents may notice that a their child has a higher shoulder or lower hip making clothing fit poorly. Back and leg pains may also be present. A thorough chiropractic examination can help detect scoliosis in its earliest stages. Corrective action can begin immediately with a program of specific chiropractic adjustments and rehabilitation to help reduce spinal misalignments and improve spinal structure and function. Spinal rehabilitative programs are designed to help strengthen musculature and improve posture, thus providing more spinal stability. Safe and natural chiropractic care has helped many young women avoid braces, surgery, and the psychological effects of this underlying deformity.

Chiropractic Management of Arthritis
Long explained as a by-product of aging, arthritis affects over 40 million Americans. Arthritis or joint inflammation is a result of trauma to the joints, improper circulation and poor nutritional habits. As we age of our muscles weaken, our joints become less flexible and our muscles and connective tissues become less hydrated.
Numerous studies have shown that while arthritis has no cure and degenerative changes are not reversible, chiropractic is one of the many options to help you increase joint mobility and decrease the inflammation of arthritis. Here are a few solutions that can lead to decreased pain and a healthier lifestyle.
Chiropractic Spinal or Extremity Manipulation
Each vertebra in our spine joins or articulates with other joints around it, to form a moveable joint. Cartilage lines the joints and also forms the disc, which is made of cartilage that acts as a shock absorber for the spine. Cartilage has no direct artery supply, so its nutrients have to be absorbed through a process called “inbibition.” If the joint is misaligned and not moving properly, inbibition is decreased and the cartilage goes through a slow process of decay. By getting regular chiropractic adjustments to remove spinal misalignments, inbibition is optimized and the decay of arthritis is slowed down.
Nutritional Supplementation
At the Decatur Back & Neck Center we offer the following supplementation to aid in the management of arthritis:
- Glucosamine
- Omega-3
- Chondroiton Sulfate
- MSM
Before undertaking any regimen of treatment for arthritis, you should check with your chiropractor for your specific needs. Certain supplements should be screened for conditions and drugs that may not be recommended in combination.
